That Public Life

I’ve led a very quiet public life. Sounds strange? It does even to me. I’ve always prided myself on leading a quiet personal life and then you have me in my career leading a very public one. This means I work for the public sector in indirect procurement. I procure critical products and services that allow our various levels of governments, agencies and entities to run their day to day operations to serve the public.

It didn’t take very long after I started working at 17 years old to solidify my commitment to life in public service. My first job was in a coffee shop, and within four years after working in retail, I started working for a municipal government. It all came very naturally to me, because even growing up, we led a life of service. Acts of charity and selfless giving are second nature to my family and it’s something my parents engrained as a core value in their children. I laugh and joke around and say “I don’t do people” when in actuality, I just love to care for them quietly. My payback is “mudita“ which is to experience joy from others experiencing joy.

When a person commits to working for the public in any aspect naturally, you will always want to do as much as you can. That is no different to what I have been experiencing. At this juncture of my career I am looking to do more. And people want to know how I’ve gotten to the point where I am. I’ve decided that not only will I start a company whose core mission and values are engrained in public service and animal advocacy, but I will also give back to others by helping them grow their public presence either professionally through working for the public sector, doing business with the public sector or through self growth.

I’ve decided to start a blog and podcast and share my experiences not only growing my company, but how I lead life in public service. I have decided to share not only my professional knowledge and experience, but I’d like to take you behind the scenes on some of the more personal aspects. Sometimes the public life that we lead doesn’t account for the other side of things behind closed doors. In order to prepare to present ourselves to the world, we have a lot of work to do internally. It’s very quiet and gruelling work and it’s also something that we as a collective need to acknowledge more of.

I’ve decided to name my blog and my podcast “That Public Life“ so we can talk not only about working in the public sector, but also how to prepare ourselves as people for a life of service. That Public Life forms part of my overall brand and my company through which I offer various products and services to those residing in Canada, the United States of America and the Caribbean. Please check out my website or send me an email to learn more about my work and how we can also work together to find solutions to your needs.

Today is December 31, 2022 and while a lot of people are reflecting on the past year, I thought this was the right time to make this announcement that I have founded my own company, and that I am here to continue growing my own public life. That starts tomorrow. Welcome 2023!
